Why NIOES (NIFPS)

The transformer is among the most costly tools located in power plants and substations etc. They normally have a large quantity of flammable substance, which can spread fire to nearby structures also and caused a power failure and so massive economic losses. Special awareness should therefore be spent for their safety.

The traditional System like the “High-Velocity Water Spray System / Co2 Gas Flooding System” provides external security to the transformers and they arrive into operation once the Fire got initiated around the transformer for no reason whatsoever or in case the transformer already got blasted. 

Whereas “Nitrogen Injection Explosion prevention & Fire Protection System” is internal protection of the transformer as it includes the Transformer from its explosion which generally arises due to overheating/overloading / winding Short-circuiting or for any earth fault etc.

Please remark that this system does not protect the transformer from its outer Fire, since Nitrogen is injected inside the body of the transformer, Therefore “Nitrogen Injection Explosion prevention System” is not an option for HVWS / Co2 Flooding System but its Installation is suggested in addition to HVWS / Co2 Flooding System.


SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

NITROGEN INJECTION FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM, which brings care to the health of the Transformer and saves it from any undesirable fire internally and externally. In a Transformer, Internal Fire can arise due to arcing, core and coil dielectric disruption, cracks, twisting of the winding, inappropriate grounding, etc. While external fire erupts due to OLTC, oil leaks, gasket rupture, weld cord, faults of forced cooling fans, Buchholz Relay, the leaving of the current transformers of the bushings, bursting of bushings, wrong/ loosening of cable terminations, defects in transmission lines, etc.

 

DETECTION

  • Hollow-Metallic Tube Type Linear Heat Detection System:
    Maximum care is carried out in catching any rise in temperature, Hollow-metallic tube-based Linear Heat Detection System can catch fire/heat at the initial stage and generates a command to activate the extinguishing system. A sealed hollow metallic tube filled with ambient air catches the rate of rising Heat Temperature & Maximum Temperature for strongly exact detection. It considers pressure at the rate of 2 selections per second made due to heat. It trips the Transformer when the temperature is over the permissible limit set (customizable/programmable), it can be much down the flashpoint temperature of oil thus stopping any tank break and oil fire in case of arcing generated by internal defects as well as external defects. It avoids any fire or harm to the transformer. The system is site configurable, and the temperature range can be set as per the local ambient situations.

  • The detection unit is UL, FM & VdS consented.
